Typo-Graphic Rhythms: Visualizing Sound through Typography
As part of the extension of the exhibition “RASM: Contemporary Arabic Typographic posters 2008 – 2018”, 1971- Design Space invites you to an experimental workshop, conducted by the Dubai-based designers Abjad Design.
This workshop invites you to listen to the musical compositions from Abjad’s commissioned piece “A Hidden Quitent” displayed in the exhibition. Choose one of them and develop dynamic letterforms using stave lines and grid paper. Your letterforms will create a black and white, typographic composition in A3 poster format that you can take home.
Join this workshop to refine your understanding of composition, texture, integration of graphic elements and shapes as well as rethinking conventional practices and exploring new techniques of lettering.
Prerequisites/ Skills: Participants will start working by hand and then move on to various forms of digitalization using Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop / In Design applications. Participants are requested to bring their own laptops.
Hours per session: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (includes a 1 hour lunch break at Jones the Grocer, beneath 1971 – Design Space)
